Supervisor asks state for clarification on tribal pot laws

J. Harry Jones March 7, 2019

County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob has sent a letter to the state asking if a recently opened cannabis dispensary inside the former Santa Ysabel Casino is legal.

About a month ago, the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel, which has been growing and testing marijuana for three years, opened the first dispensary on tribal land in the county.

In 2017, the supervisors voted not to allow dispensaries to operate in the unincorporated county, which is where the Santa Ysabel tribe’s reservation is located south of Lake Henshaw.
