Federal judge denies request of EG casino project opponents

A federal judge rejected on Jan. 16 an attempt to gain access to privileged documents by opponents of Wilton Rancheria’s proposed casino-resort in Elk Grove.

This request was made by the Penryn-based group, Stand Up for California.

They challenged the U.S. Department of the Interior’s approval of the acquisition of land in trust for the Wilton Rancheria, a federally recognized Native American tribe. Placing land into trust was a prerequisite to having the casino built.
