Eureka City Council votes to return Indian Island to the Wiyot Tribe

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – Eureka City Council, by a unanimous vote, will transfer Indian Island back to the Wiyot Tribe.

Two points of clarification were made Tuesday evening. The Wiyot Tribe believes this is sacred land, not a surplus property. Second, this is not just a transfer of property, it’s a step towards equality and liberation.
