Coastal Commission signs off on Trinidad Rancheria land trust plan for harbor area

The California Coastal Commission today voted unanimously, with one abstention, to move forward with designating land near the Trinidad harbor as part of a federal trust as requested by the Trinidad Rancheria.

The tribe has proposed to build a single-story, 1,300 square-foot visitor center and to implement stormwater runoffs into the harbor as part of the project.

The plan has drawn concerns from the public and other Native American groups with a stake in the area, including the Yurok Tribe and the Tsurai Ancestral Society.
