Calexico Casino Project is Put To Rest

Over a decade ago Calexico residents were presented with an ambitious project of a casino where its supporters claimed it would bring in much needed revenue for the city. That project is now officially dead.

Thirteen years ago, the Manzanita Band of Kumeyaay Nation and Calexico entered into negotiations to have an off-reservation casino/hotel resort in the city.

In 2009, the Calexico City Council approved the plans for the casino project and entered into an agreement with Hallwood Calexico Investments, LLC for the development of commercial land uses, including a Class III tribal gaming facility and hotel facility within an approximately 232-acre site in Calexico.
