Thunder Valley Casino turns to tradition at ribbon-cutting ceremony

Thunder Valley Casino celebrated the completion of its new 15-story hotel, spa and pool Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked with traditional tribal dancing and drumming.

While performance was an homage to the expanded casino's roots, the new facilities attempted to mirror the opulence and luxury found in Las Vegas.

"Thunder Valley Casino Resort has come a long way since first opening in 2003," said David Keyser, chairman of the United Auburn Indian Community Tribal Council.

The event started with elected officials praising the casino and tribe for their financial contributions - both to area governments and to non-profits.

"They have become really good partners," said Roseville Mayor Gina Garbolino.

The hotel, spa, pool and outdoor amphitheater open to the public July 1. In 2008, plans for hotel, which was to be 24 stories tall and include 640 rooms, was reduced to 15 stories.
