RIVERSIDE - A proposal for Riverside County sheriff's deputies to conduct 24-hour patrol operations around the site of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians' future casino was approved today by the Board of Supervisors.
The tentative agreement between the tribe and Sheriff Stan Sniff calls for a deputy to be available day and night once the new Horseshoe Grande development in San Jacinto is complete.
According to Sheriff's Department documents, the cost of increased law enforcement services at the location will be around $1.1 million a year -- for which the tribe would be billed.
Sheriff's officials said tribal leaders want a deputy on hand at all times to respond to disturbances in neighborhoods ringing the casino.
Horseshoe Grande is planned to replace the current Soboba casino at 23333 Soboba Road.
The 729,500-square-foot entertainment complex will be located on a 55- acre site at Lake Park Drive and Soboba Road. Features will include a 300-room hotel, a convention center, a fitness center, a 12-pump gas station and a convenience store. A fire station will also be on site.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the development has not been announced.
