Two men with Soboba tattoos forced their way into a San Jacinto home Saturday morning and robbed the woman resident at gunpoint, then fled onto the Soboba Reservation, police said.
Police were called to a house in the 300 block of East Main Street where a woman said two men pushed their way into her home, San Jacinto police Sgt. Rick Garcia said in a report.
Both men pulled handguns, ordering the woman to tell them where her roommate was, police said. When the woman told them he wasn't home, one of the gunmen demanded her valuables and took the roommate's wallet, Garcia said.
As the men were leaving, the male roommate and another man pulled up to the house and spotted the robbers leaving, Garcia said.
As the roommate tried to take down the license-plate number of a two-door Chrysler Sebring with tinted windows, the men threaten him with a gun.
The car, which had large chrome-type wheels, was seen speeding east on Main Street, Garcia said.
The roommate and the other man followed the Chrysler down Main onto Soboba Road past the Soboba Casino, but stopped and turned around when the Chrysler drove past a guard shack onto the Soboba Reservation, Garcia said.
Police have not confirmed if the two robbers are Soboba tribal members, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Ron Lawler said.
San Jacinto police interviewed the victims at the home and sheriff's deputies later were given access to the reservation to investigate the robbery, Lawler said.
The two robbers were described as being in their 20s.
One, known only as John, had "Soboba Rez" tattooed on his left forearm.
The other had the word "Soboba" tattooed on his neck in large letters.
The Sheriff's Department and the tribe have been involved in a dispute over open access to the reservation since three tribal members were killed in gunbattles with deputies in May.
In July, Sheriff Stanley Sniff threatened to bring criminal charges against anyone at the reservation who impedes deputies in their duties.
