Valley View Casino will increase its number of slot machines by 400 to a total of 2,000 by the end of November, thanks to a court ruling last month, tribal officials have announced.

The Valley Center casino, owned by the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, has about 1,600 Las Vegas-style slot machines. The tribe had been trying to get more slot machines in the casino, but was prevented by the governor, who said no more machine licenses were available.

After several tribes sued the state, a federal judge agreed with them.

"This decision will benefit all aspects of our tribal community, further promoting tribal economic development, self-sufficiency and strong sovereign governments," said Allen Lawson, chairman of the San Pasqual tribe.

Officials said the tribe expects to have the machines in operation by the Thanksgiving holiday.
