A 47-year-old parolee was in custody Friday after sheriff’s deputies found illegal drugs and weapons in his possession, authorities said.
Lupe Vasquez was pulled over Thursday night while driving on Valley Center Road, near East Valley Parkway in Escondido, said San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Niderostl.
The deputy who stopped Vasquez’ vehicle recognized him as a parolee at large and searched his vehicle, Niderostl said. The search yielded illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia indicating possession for sale, he said.
In a subsequent search of Vasquez’ residence in the 21000 block of Kewaak Way on the San Pasqual Indian Reservation, deputies found a large amount of jewelry, two loaded handguns, several knives and additional illegal drugs, Niderostl said.
Niderostl was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of narcotic and weapon charges.
A second suspect, Gregory Pehoviak, 46, was arrested on suspicion of possession of numerous types of controlled substances and other items indicating possession for sale, according to the sergeant. Authorities did not immediately say whether Pehoviak was arrested during the traffic stop or during
the search of Vasquez’ residence.
