Indian gaming funding available

Published By Daily Democrat 04/17/2011

The Yolo Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee has been allocated $236,663 to award as grants to local agencies in Yolo County impacted by tribal gaming and is now receiving applications for grant funding.

The state budget appropriated $30 million statewide from the state Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund to Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committees for the purpose of providing grants to local government agencies impacted by tribal casinos. The Yolo IGLCBC consists of seven members who represent Yolo County, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation and the general public. The IGLCBC is charged with establishing application policies and procedures and assessing eligibility of applications for local government grants from the Special Distribution Fund.

The IGLCBC can only make grants for projects that mitigate impacts from casinos on local government jurisdictions. For projects that also provide broader benefits to the community, IGLCBC grant funds can only be used to pay for the proportionate share of the project that mitigates a casino impact.
Priority areas for the receipt of grant funding include: law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, environmental impacts, water supplies, waste disposal, behavioral health, planning and adjacent land uses, public health, roads, recreation and youth programs, and child care programs.
Applications for funding must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13.
