Assemblyman working to fight highway

08/20/2010 The Daily Democrat ANN PYM McDONALD, Capay

In response to column "What are your state representatives doing for you?" of Aug. 17: In agricultural Capay Valley it has been Jim Nielsen who supports agriculture. He and his staff are working actively and diligently with local citizens to keep the state from building a huge new highway from I-505 to the Indian casino.

The proposed Caltrans highway would construct an entirely new flat, wide, straight 65 mph design speed driveway from 505 to the casino, destroying thousands of orchard trees and native trees, taking 200 acres of farmland away from farmers, and making it very dangerous for farmers to move equipment on SR 16. Jim Nielsen is directly and actively at bat for Yolo County farmers!
