VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -- A woman and man were in custody Tuesday for allegedly leaving her ill father inside an unheated car outside a casino while they gambled for hours, a San Diego County sheriff's sergeant said.
The 72-year-old man had just been released from a hospital last Thursday and required monitoring, Sgt. Mark Varnau said.
Instead, Marsha Therse Brown, 42, and Eddie Robles Medina, 53, left the victim in a car in the parking lot of Harrah's Rincon Casino for several hours, Varnau alleged.
The sergeant said the man became violently ill, but his daughter and her companion allegedly told deputies they had been too busy gambling to check on his condition.
It was raining and about 60 degrees during the several hours the man was left alone in the car, Varnau said. He was found by sheriff's deputies.
Brown and Medina were booked on suspicion of elder neglect likely to cause serious injury or death, according to the sergeant.
The victim is back in a hospital and recovering, he said.
