TEMECULA: Pechanga member appointed to regional water board

TEMECULA ---- Mark Luker, a member of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians' tribal council, has been appointed to the San Diego Regional Water Quality Board.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's office announced the appointment of Luker, 34, of Temecula, on Monday morning.

Luker has served on the tribal council since 2004. He also is chairman of the Santa Margarita River Watershed Steering Committee and he is a member of the state's American Indian Education Oversight Committee, according to a news release from the governor's office.

The position on the water quality board requires state Senate confirmation.

The regional board's mission is to develop and enforce plans to protect the state's water supply.
