Pechanga tribe pleased with pact

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 The Press-Enterprise

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians is praising an agreement struck with Temecula to pay for the impact the tribe's hotel and casino have on city infrastructure and services.

The City Council Tuesday approved the 21-year pact that calls for the tribe to pay at least $42 million to cover the cost of road repairs and other effects stemming from Pechanga Resort & Casino. The tribe also will contribute $10 million toward interchange improvements at Interstate 15 and Highway 79 South.

"Over the years we have worked earnestly with the city to foster a strong government-to-government relationship," Tribal Chairman Mark Macarro said in an e-mailed statement.

"For us, this agreement is the latest in a history of projects we have undertaken with the city in the spirit of community and cooperation."
