La Posta Band of Mission Indians Temporarily Cuts Casino Hours

April 4, 2009 La Posta Press Release

CALIFORNIA(Press Release) – La Posta Band of Mission Indians Tribal Council announced today that the La Posta Casino will temporarily reduce it hours of operation to address the continued economic slump impacting California.

In response to lower gaming revenue, the Casino is reducing its hours of operation from being open 24 hours each day to closing at 2a.m. and reopening at 6a.m. Monday – Thursday. Along with reductions in hours of operation the Casino has recently began other cost-cutting measures that include laying off some Casino employees, reducing some full-time employees to part-time positions, and streamlining efficiency in other areas within the Casino operation.

“It was a very difficult decision to lay-off workers, particularly in our area of California where jobs are difficult to find, however the purpose of the Casino is fund the Tribal government and provide for Tribal economic development as intended under IGRA, and we feel at this time, these measures will help the Casino be profitable in the long term”, said Casino General Manager James Hill. To date, due to debt payments, state compact, San Diego County MOU obligations and operational costs, the La Posta Casino has not produced revenues large enough to distribute funds to its Tribal Government and membership.

“These were very difficult decisions to make but they are vital to maintain our casino operations during this economic downfall”, said La Posta Tribal Chairwoman Gwendolyn Parada.
