JACKSON, CA - Two people were injured and sheriff's deputies detained up to five others, including the alleged gunman, in an early morning shooting at the Jackson Rancheria Casino, according to officials.

The shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. Sunday inside the casino located on New York Ranch Road, Amador County undersheriff Jim Wegner said.

Officers arrived to find two victims, ages 18 and 15, were shot on the casino floor near Bud's Burgers restaurant, Wegner said. Both victims were transported by helicopter to area hospitals with gunshot wounds to the face and neck.

Wegner said Amador County Sheriff's deputies spent the rest of the morning setting up a perimeter and sweeping the parking garage, searching for the gunman and several associates.

The parking garage search turned up four people connected to the shooting hiding in two parked vehicles, Wegner said.

As the parking structure search was winding down, Wegner said a witness spotted two suspicious men climbing out of the brush in the area of Dalton Road near Highway 88.

Surveillance camera footage of the crime captured images of the alleged gunman and a friend, who was also suspected in the shooting.

The shooter, described as a man in his late teens or early 20s, was arrested and booked into the Amador County Jail for attempted murder. Wegner said the gunman was not cooperating with investigators and had not disclosed his name.

The victims, the suspect and the gunman's associates were all from the Stockton area and had suspected ties to Sureno and Norteno gangs, Wegner said.

Casino patrons were briefly held inside the facility as officers swept the parking garage and interviewed suspects, according to Jackson Rancheria Casino and Hotel CEO Rich Hoffman said.

Hoffman said the casino was reopened by 11:30 a.m.
