Looking to expand its relationship with Caesars Entertainment Corp., 888 Holdings Plc, a major Internet gambling company in the United Kingdom, plans to apply for a license in Nevada for intrastate online poker.
According to a story for Bloomberg, written by David Altaner, the company is in the "advanced stages" in its talks with Caesars about seeking an online poker license in Nevada. The two companies have an agreement involving software services, an activity that permitted 888 Holdings to receive a Nevada license.
In the most recent legislative session, Nevada lawmakers authorized intrastate poker, provided it receives approval from the federal government.
Caesars Entertainment has been vocal in suggesting it would prefer having the U.S. Congress pass a law permitting online poker rather than having the activity conducted on a state basis.
Speaking for 888 Holdings was Deputy Chairman Brian Mattingley.
"We would love to do it with them (Caesars)," Mattingley said in a telephone interview. He said he hoped to apply for the license sometime this fall.
Mattingley said he looked at online poker as a "no brainer" and his company did not want to miss out on the opportunity. He included California in the company’s thinking since that state’s lawmakers are also considering intrastate online poker.
