The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians and Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Wednesday made a three-year pledge to extend their commitment to be the presenting sponsor of the annual Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival.
Tribal and casino leaders said the annual commitment through 2014 is essential.
County officials described it as significant.
The county Economic Development Agency is grateful for the support, said Rob Field, assistant county executive officer of the EDA, as several large sponsors have had to decline or limit contributions because of tough economic times.
Paul Ryan, casino general manager, said the three-year commitment totals $500,000 over the three years that begin in 2012.
“Even though we're experiencing a down economy right now, events like the Riverside County Fair are integral to maintaining the fabric of our community,” Cabazon tribal chairman David Roosevelt said on behalf of the tribe that's been a presenting sponsor for 13 years. “We believe wholeheartedly in the event, along with other members of the Four Winds Tribal Coalition.”
“The fair, with everything we offer our visitors from headliner concerts to camel rides to ostrich races, would not be possible without the support of our community and the support of Fantasy Springs,'' Field said.
This sponsorship “allows the county to build on the success of the fair, offering more events while keeping the cost of admission lower than a movie ticket,'' Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit said in a statement.
The 65th annual Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival will be held Feb. 18-27. As part of Fantasy Spring's sponsorship, big-name entertainment is lined up and admission at affordable rates is offered on set days of the fair.
