Agua Caliente tribe announces it will build large cultural center and spa in downtown Palm Springs

Barrett Newkirk Oct. 8, 2017

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has unveiled plans for a large-scale cultural center and spa complex in downtown Palm Springs at the site of the tribe's historic hot spring.

Construction on the project, which includes a greatly expanded Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, is expected to begin in early 2018 and take about two years to complete.

The announcement comes while the Palm Springs-based Agua Caliente tribe works on its new hotel and casino project — final plans for which have not been announced — and while other large non-tribal commercial building projects downtown are underway.
